چکیده

The problem of free convection flow and heat transfer of a fluid inside a square cavity having adiabatic obstacle positioned in the center of the cavity has been investigated numerically using a penalty finite element method. Calculations have been made for Rayleigh numbers ranging from 10 to 10 for an obstacle of aspect ratios AR=0, 0.4, 0.5, 0.6. Nusselt number results are presented for Prandtl number of 0.71 (assuming the cavity is filled with air). Streamline and isotherm contours are also presented. The obtained results demonstrate the effects of pertinent parameters on the fluid flow, thermal fields and heat transfer inside the cavity. The results show that the heat transfer rates generally increase with the shrink of the obstacle size and with the increase of Rayleigh number. Excellent agreement is obtained with previous results in the literature. 2010 Mathematics Subject Classification: 65M60, 76D05, 80A20

Interaction of laminar natural convection and radiation in an inclined square cavity containing participating gases

Two-dimensional numerical study of flow and temperature fields for laminar natural convection and radiation in the inclined cavity is performed in the present work. The walls of the square cavity are assumed kept at constant temperatures. An absorbing, emitting, and scattering gray medium is enclosed by the opaque and diffusely emitting walls. The set of governing equations, including conservat...

Mixed convection study in a ventilated square cavity using nanofluids

This work indicates a numerical study on the laminar heat transfer mixed convection in a square cavity with two openings (an inlet and an outlet) on vertical walls through which nanofluid flows. Two flow directions are examined: i) ascending flow which enters the bottom opening and exits the upper opening; ii) descending flow which enters the upper opening and exits the bottom opening. The asce...

Buoyancy driven heat transfer of a nanofluid in a differentially heated square cavity under effect of an adiabatic square baffle

Buoyancy driven heat transfer of Cu-water nanofluid in a differentially heated square cavity with an inner adiabatic square baffle at different positions is studied numerically. The left and right walls of the cavity are at temperatures of Th and Tc, respectively that Th > Tc, while the horizontal walls are insulated. The governing equations are discretized using the finite volume method while ...

Numerical Study of Natural Convection in an Inclined Cavity with Partially Active Side Walls Filled with Cu-water Nanofluid

The buoyancy-driven fluid flow and heat transfer in a square cavity with partially active side walls filled with Cu-water nanofluid is investigated numerically. The active parts of the left and the right side-walls of the cavity are maintained at temperatures Th and Tc, respectively, with Th>Tc. The enclosure’s top and bottom walls, as well as, the inactive parts of its side walls are kept insu...

Influence of Magnetic Wire Positions on free convection of Fe3O4-Water nanofluid in a Square Enclosure Utilizing with MAC Algorithm

The augment of heat transfer and fluid of buoyancy-driven flow of Fe3O4-Water nanofluid in a square cavity under the influence of an external magnetic field is studied numerically. Cold temperature is applied on the side (vertical) walls and high temperature is imposed on the bottom wall while the top wall is kept at thermally insulated. The governing non-dimensional differential equations are ...
